George H.W. Bush lies in state in Washington

After Bush died in his native Houston on Friday, dozens of prominent public figures shared tributes to the late leader, who helped guide the US out of the Cold War.

Bush, who was president from 1989 to 1993, will lie in state in the US Capitol rotunda for a ceremony and public visitation from today until Thursday. President Donald Trump, who ordered federal offices closed on Wednesday for a national day of mourning, is to attend with first lady Melania Trump.

The House has canceled all votes for the week and the Senate has postponed votes until after the Wednesday funeral of former President George H.W. Bush.

A special member of the Bush family stole the show during the ceremonies honoring President George H.W. Bush on Monday.

In keeping with presidential tradition, a detailed schedule of the funeral and memorial services for former President George H.W. Bush was released Saturday evening, with ceremonies planned in Houston, Washington, D.C., Spring, Texas, and College Station, Texas.

Sully went to work with Bush this summer after former first lady Barbara Bush passed away earlier this year.

Shortly before leaving the service, he married his 19-year-old sweetheart, Barbara Pierce, and forged the longest presidential marriage in US history.

The younger President Bush, his wife, Laura, and others from the family traveled on the flight from Houston. That partnership eventually took Baker to a career as secretary of state and secretary of the Treasury - and Bush to the White House.

He says his father spent time on the river guiding Bush.

Still, when an aide told Bush his friend was visiting that day, "he perked up".

"And I would want to encourage moms to look at what good leaders are and to never lose hope that they can't raise their children with good morals and integrity".

"We're going to heaven", Baker said.
