After a prolonging rift between the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and iPhone-maker, Apple, the do-not-disturb (DND) mobile application of the former has been available on iOS since Friday. This app will help users to check unwanted phone calls and text messages.

The DND app can now be downloaded from the Apple App Store on iOS and while it's unclear if TRAI has revised its privacy policies on the app for the iOS release, Apple seems to be convinced with the government's proposition. Coming back to the threat of iPhones being banned, earlier this year TRAI had warned Apple about hosting the app on its App Store or face a ban of its devices in the country. In July, TRAI issued a directive to Indian telecom companies telling them that phones that did not support TRAI-DND app would have to be barred from the telecom networks in India.

"Trai DND App will not block any SMS/Calls from authentic businesses/entities that you have subscribed too, e.g. your bank, food delivery apps, travel/taxi apps etc".

The new DND feature on iOS is not limited to India and is available for users across the globe. While privacy concerns have been raised, the app does promise to offer some resistance to the problem of spam calls and text messages in India. For those who are unaware, this only allows limited access to call and SMS data of the users.

In the third step, the user will be shown how the app can be used for reporting spam. In a nutshell, you can download the app to avoid those pesky calls and messages from telemarketers. The app will allow you to select DND preferences, and will set up the SMS to send. There are reports that claim that an average person receives up to 10 unwanted calls and messages in a single day. However, Apple did not permit the app on its platform citing privacy issues. Complaint registration SMS will be sent to toll-free number 1909.
