Tyson Chandler Agrees To Buyout With Suns, Will Sign With Lakers

The veteran is expected to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

Los Angeles native Tyson Chandler is on the verge of signing a contract with the Lakers after being placed on waivers by the Phoenix Suns. The Lakers rank No. 21 in the league in defensive efficiency.

Some of that difference is surely statistical noise over a small sample. When McGee sits, the Lakers defensive rating balloons to an atrocious 121. He will sign a one-year deal with the team for the rest of the season. Many people are probably surprised he stuck around in Phoenix for so long with the lack of minutes and opportunities, and many benchings in favor of young players. What's left to answer is whether Chandler is the right player for that role.

According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, the Phoenix Suns are in the process of buying out the veteran.

While the 2018-19 sample (15 shots) is not meaningful, Chandler saw his rim protection slip the previous two seasons.

Diablo 4 Was Allegedly Going To Be Confirmed At BlizzCon
Kotaku has updated its story, claiming that the video does exist, but the timeline of Blizzard's announcement isn't clear. However, the plans to tease Diablo 4 were reportedly pulled last minute.

Chandler is earning $13.6 million this season which essentially guarantees he will pass through waivers easily.

"We can only focus on what we can do to get better every day as a Lakers franchise and hopefully someday we can put ourselves in a position where we can compete for a championship as Golden State has done for the last few years". Chandler had a game-winning alley-oop dunk for the Suns in a game past year as time expired, so he knows exactly how its run.

"They can pick up right where they left off... we're picking up from scratch", the three-time National Basketball Association champion told a news conference at the Lakers training facility in El Segundo.

That raises the question of whether the Lakers might have been better off waiting for another center to come free on the buyout market.

It's never been easier to find quality contributors at center, underscoring the Lakers' inability to do so outside of McGee. Here are three reasons to like this move for the Lakers if it takes place.

Chandler should provide some much-needed depth to the Lakers' group of centers.
