Divers yesterday recovered the Crash Survivable Memory Unit, which provides a crucial development in the investigation into what caused the two-month-old plane to plunge into the ocean earlier this week, killing 189 people.

Retrieving the black box will be key to unlocking why the Boeing 737-MAX, one of the world's newest and most advanced commercial passenger jets, nosedived into the Java sea so soon after leaving Jakarta.

Its contents may help explain why the almost brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8 went down.

The plane enroute to the city of Pangkal Pinang with 189 people on board was reported missing at around 6:30 a.m. local time Monday (2330 GMT Sunday), and was believed to have crashed 13 minutes after taking off from Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta global airport.

The Boeing 737 of the airline Lion Air that crashed near the island of Java on October 29, there were problems with the speed.

Lion Air said the aircraft that crashed had been airworthy and the pilot and co-pilot had 11,000 hours of flying time between them.

To allow for an uninterrupted investigation, Indonesia's transport ministry on Thursday issued 120-day suspensions to Lion Air's maintenance and engineering directors, its fleet maintenance manager, and the engineer who gave the jet permission to fly on Monday, Reuters reported.

Personal effects, debris, and body parts have been found.

The airline is to meet a team from Boeing on Wednesday to discuss the fate of its 737 MAX 8 planes.

"There are some small objects that we found, but last night, thank God, we found a large enough object", he said.

Strong currents are not uncommon in the areas, and are likely to continue to inhibit recovery and search efforts, including the search to locate the cockpit voice recorder, or CVR, that is yet to be found.

The flight data recorder was greeted at the Jakarta International Container Terminal by Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and Soerjanto Tjahjono, the head of Indonesia's transport safety committee (KNKT). The country's airlines have previously been banned from operating in the United States and European Union.

The disaster has reignited concerns about safety in Indonesia's fast-growing aviation industry, which was recently removed from European Union and USA blacklists, and also raised doubts about the safety of Boeing's new generation 737 MAX 8 plane.

Others were vomiting and panicking, the passenger said.

As of the end of the day Wednesday, 56 body bags containing human remains had been sent to a Jakarta hospital for identification using DNA samples provided by family members, officials said.
