Authorities in IN say a nine-year-old girl struck and killed in a traffic accident Tuesday was trying to shield her younger brothers from the pickup truck that crashed into them.

In the past two days, more children have been struck by vehicles at school bus stops, including an elementary school-aged boy in MS who was killed on Wednesday.

"This school has been warned, this has been an issue, we have said this before", Ingle said, according to WNDU16.

"This has been a very hard day for our school family as we attempt to cope with the devastating loss of three elementary students and a critically injured middle school student", he said. I am very appreciative of our teachers, administrators and staff that assisted, comforted, and supported our students and each other today in our schools.

The school district said on Wednesday the bus stop where the children were at will be relocated to a nearby park and the safety of all district stops is being examined.

Blaine Conley, superintendent of the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation, said in a statement on October 31 that starting on November 1 the bus stop would be relocated into the mobile home park. She was released from the Fulton County Jail after posting a $15,000 surety bond shortly after her arrest Tuesday afternoon.

The probable cause affidavit stated that the driver behind Shepherd, known only as Maggie, told police she recognized the school bus early on, but soon saw that Shepherd's vehicle was not slowing down and saw the children illuminated by the headlights of Shepherd's truck.

"Our hearts just break for the families involved here in this tragic situation, and our prayers obviously go out to them", said Sgt.

"It shouldn't have happened but our job is to fight through it and wrap our arms around [the father], as his community will", Slocum said.

Three of the children, all siblings, died in the crash and the fourth was badly injured.
