Vikings ease Griffen in, unsure if he plays against Saints

"I am now focused on resolving personal issues with which I have been dealing for a long time", Griffen wrote. Griffen has not played in a game since the Vikings tied the Green Bay Packers in Week 2.

Everson Griffen was back at practice with the Minnesota Vikings for the first time in nearly six weeks, a significant point of progress in returning to his spot at right defensive end and re-establishing his pass-rushing and run-stopping skills in a game setting for the NFC North leaders. "I continue to be extremely grateful for the constant support from my family, my teammates, the Vikings organization and our tremendous fans". On Thursday, he was listed as a full participant in practice as "not injury related" and also had that listing retroactive to Wednesday.

"I feel like everything happens for a reason and I needed this", Griffen said.

Coach Mike Zimmer said the team will evaluate Griffen at the end of the week before determining whether he'll suit up against the Saints on Sunday night. The report said Vikings executive director of player development Les Pico told Kokesh that Griffen had been "struggling for weeks". After that incident, Griffen allegedly tried to break into the home of Vikings teammate Trae Waynes.

Some of the details provided by Griffen's wife are extremely weird and concerning. "We've been in contact with the doctor constantly and talking to him about the things he's done and accomplished while he's been there and things he's got to in the future and all that".

"I don't think (Griffen's situation) is as unique as what we're kind of making it out to be", Zimmer said. But Zimmer's answer to supporting Griffen through this process is absolutely spot on.

"This is an illness", Zimmer said, "and he's done a good job of helping to get better and continues to try to get better". Connecting the dots here, it sounds like Griffen has some mental-health issues to work through and could be facing criminal charges.

"You need to ask for help".

For now, Griffen is simply happy to have returned to the Vikings. "It's been hard to be away".
