Now that the highly anticipated premiere of "The Conners" is behind us, the series' showrunner, Bruce Helford, is opening up on the thinking behind how it dealt with the absence of Roseanne Barr's character.

The spinoff's pilot, titled "Keep on truckin", opens three weeks after Roseanne's funeral, with the family still coming to grips with her death, from what they think was a heart attack.

"Barr was slightly more direct on Twitter, 'I AIN'T DEAD, B--S!" "In my last conversation with her, she was doing quite well", he says, predicting she'll have "mixed feelings" about the new show. "What better way for healing than a shared moment, once a week, where we could have all enjoyed a compelling storyline featuring a witty character - a woman - who America connected with, not in spite of her flaws, but because of them?"

He continued: "After much discussion by all parties, it was decided that we would have to make her departure clearly permanent. And, we know the stories that we want to tell this season, and this is the same family - the Conner family - and I'm really looking forward to telling more of their stories and their lives". "What I would say is we've all worked with her a long time". Numerous show's cast, writers, and crew members voiced their outrage to the media and online.
