Was Glover playing his enigmatic character for the crowd?

Beneath it all, the question remains: Who played Teddy at the Emmys?

The cast of Atlanta - and Teddy Perkins are in the building at #Emmys after party.

Peter Dinklage and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who were both nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, were in attendance for the big night. Hader said backstage, "I don't know who that was I hugged but it was the guy from Atlanta, he showed up".

Some have likened Perkins to Michael Jackson, though the writers claimed the King of Pop was just one of many inspirations for the character.

'I'm sure you've heard that before from actors but in this case I was far from home, I live in NY and we shot the show in Europe, so many times I had to stay there and couldn't go home on the weekends and I really developed deep roots in the community of Ireland and some of the other countries we shot in. "There was a period like five years ago when they were saying seven seasons and I was saying 10 seasons and they won, they're the ones actually working on it".

That idea was also was dismissed when a photo of Glover, Stanfield, Brian Tyree Henry, and Perkins surfaced. "The way Darius felt was quite similar to the way I felt - uncomfortable throughout the duration of shooting it". To add some mystery, the credits of the episode did not list Glover as the actor, claiming instead that Perkins played himself. "The last season is far beyond what we've ever attempted before". Would he have given his entire acceptance speech in character, speaking in a high-pitched voice?
