Josh Gordon Traded to the New England Patriots, Just As You Suspected

Wide receiver Josh Gordon is headed to the Patriots.

The Browns made it known over the weekend that they were planning to release Gordon if they couldn't trade him.

"This afternoon we informed Josh Gordon and his representatives that we are going to release him on Monday", general manager John Dorsey said in a statement released Saturday.

The Browns selected Gordon in the 2012 supplemental draft despite his background of drug use at Baylor. The Patriots and the Browns have agreed to a trade. Gordon had not been on the injury report all week.

Gordon has played in just six games since, missing two entire seasons because of substance abuse issues.

The Browns got a glimpse of what a healthy and focused Gordon could do over the last five games of the 2017 season after his return from his latest NFL-mandated suspension, which lasted almost three full seasons.

He sat out the first 11 games past year before returning for Cleveland's final five games, and caught 18 passes for 335 yards and one touchdown.
