NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. - Persistent rain caused the PGA Tour to suspend the BMW Championship on Sunday, and a poor forecast for Monday may completely derail the third leg of the four-tournament FedEx Cup playoff series.

Rose needs to win to displace American Dustin Johnson and become the 22nd man to be world number one since the rankings began in 1986.

Both missed the green right with their approaches, facing similar shots, and though Bradley left himself within tap-in range, Rose watched in despair as his short putt for par slid by, leaving Bradley to finish out for a huge win.

"But at the end of the season, to say that I made it to the Tour Championship after what I've been through is a pretty good accomplishment", Woods added. "Was riding some momentum (after the Dell Technologies Championship) but all in all, just game kind of got a little off". While that was certainly possible - he missed three birdie putts inside of 15 feet, and made two bogeys after finding bunkers - it was a lot to ask on a miserable day.

Spieth, who entered the BMW at 27th in FedEx Cup points, finished the event at minus-3 and slipped the 31st in the points standings.

"It was the weirdest couple of days because I knew in the back of my mind if we didn't play, I was in Atlanta".

The fourth round was rained out Sunday as torrential downpours swept across the Philadelphia region.

A crash involving Landon Cassill and Jeffrey Earnhardt late in the race led to a caution and restart with three laps remaining. Truex and the team won the Cup championship previous year and go into next week's playoffs trying to defend their title.

With the runnerup finish, Rose ascended to World No. 1. "But that second round. you can't shoot over par here and that threw me so much (further back)".

"I came out today, I just felt great. And that's so huge for a player where I am at this point, because then I can play my way back into the top 50".

Woods was referring to the special exemption that he was sure to get and unlikely to need in order to play in the championship he's won three times.

The BMW Championship is the third of four FedExCup playoff events on the PGA Tour.

By virtue of his return to East Lake - his first trip since 2013 - Bradley will once again reap the benefits of being a top-30 player on Tour.

That means he will have played only 24 tournaments this year, which includes the Ryder Cup. Spieth also must qualify for the season finale to play the minimum 25 events this season or face a fine. "I don't know if that counts."If it becomes a situation, then I obviously accept whatever fine it is and move on and try and add one every year but it's kind of tough".

Later Monday, U.S. captain Jim Furyk will announce one more selection for the Ryder Cup.
