Henry Cavill Exits Superman Role As Warner Bros. Shakes Up DC Universe

You would think Cavill's exit complicates those plans, but how the studio intends to address the larger DC cinematic universe story remains to be seen.

A source told The Hollywood Reporter that the British actor is parting ways with Warner Bros, after playing the Man Tomorrow in three movies for the studio.

Henry Cavill is to be dropped as Superman, after failing to agree terms to make an appearance in the upcoming Shazam! film, it has been reported.

Warner Bros.is instead focusing on a Supergirl movie, according to THR, which would most likely write out Cavill's Superman from the film mythology.

Another Irishman, Cillian Murphy, is in contention for the part and is priced at 10/1 to be named the next Man of Steel along with Armie Hamer, Channing Tatum, and Donald Glover. Earlier this year, Warner Bros. promoted Walter Hamada to oversee DC film operations to restructure the comic book pics in attempts to match the massive popularity of Marvel movies. He recently starred with Tom Cruise in "Mission: Impossible - Fallout", which is now the highest grossing installment in the series.
