Some believe that Oliver using the Jamaican seasoning as a selling point for his new product is disgraceful. A marinade or paste that includes at the very least pimento (allspice) and scotch bonnet peppers, also known as habenero's are key ingredients in the marinade process.

The representative for Brent Central, tweeted: "I'm just wondering do you know what Jamaican jerk actually is? The jerk part of it is barbecue and you can't barbecue rice". "@levirootsmusic should do a masterclass", she said referencing the Jamaican-born reggae musician and chef behind the best-selling Reggae Reggae jerk barbecue sauce.

Joining Ann Widdecome on talkRADIO, Rustie Lee says she is against the use of the word jerk on Oliver's rice and has said it's "not Caribbean".

The row centres over whether Oliver's rice is really jerk, which is usually a style of marinade for meat.

In response to the row, Levi Roots has called Oliver's decision to launch a microwavable "punchy jerk rice" a mistake, according to The Guardian.

She thundered: "If a black person was doing the rice, the white person wouldn't be buying it, but because it's Jamie Oliver he obviously gets that kudos to sell his products and make the money".

A Labour MP has hit out at the television chef Jamie Oliver after finding a packet of jerk rice sold under his brand, which doesn't contain all its essential ingredients.

TV chef Rustie Lee was less forgiving, saying: "At the end of the day, I've tasted it and it tastes like Caribbean rice and beans with flavours in it".

"Would you like me to change everything and change Yorkshire pudding to jerk Yorkshire pudding?" If Jamaicans have a copyright on jerk, it's a different story.

The rice is a convenience meal that you're meant to put into the microwave for one minute and then it's ready to serve.

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is famous for incorporating global flavors into his "healthy" cuisine, but this time he might have taken things one step too far.
