The founding members were the late Glenn Frey (vocals, guitar), Don Henley (vocals, drums), Bernie Leadon (vocals, guitar), and Randy Meisner (vocals, bass guitar). The album's sales totals had not been recorded by the RIAA since 2006, which means that there was a hefty amount of streams and downloads to account for, bringing the album from 29x platinum to 38.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Eagles' Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) is now certified 38x platinum, with Thriller coming in second with 33x platinum.

The RIAA, the Recording Industry Association Of America, explained to the Associated Press that their record, Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975, has reached platinum status 38 times. Now, with streaming and downloads included, this sum blends the sale of entire albums (one album sold equals one unit), sales of track equivalent albums (ten tracks sold equals one unit) and streaming (1,500 streams equals one unit sold).

In the past, the RIAA would only count physical sales of albums or songs in order for them to be certified platinum. The Eagle's 1977 album "Hotel California" is in third place, certified at 26x platinum on Monday.
