The poor performance marks an unprecedented box office low for the Oscar victor, whose status as one of Hollywood's most revered talents was tarnished late previous year after a slew of sexual misconduct allegations emerged against him. That's only $12.60 per cinema - the average cinema ticket price is the U.S. is around $9, suggesting some screens had only one person, or even none, see the film.

Last month, Scotland Yard announced that Spacey faces three additional allegations of sexual assault, according to the Guardian, bringing the total number of criminal charges against Spacey in Britain to six.

The film - also starring Ansel Elgort, Emma Thomas, Taron Egerton and Billie Lourd - was the 59-year-old's first movie release since he was accused of sexually assaulting dozens of young men. The film suffers from not being released in Los Angeles or NY, instead opting for a quiet release in cities scattered across the US such as Phoenix, Detroit, New Orleans, Miami and Hartford.

The Hollywood Reporter says it is the worst performing film of Spacey's career. The budget for the movie was $15 million.

The accusations started in October when actor Anthony Rapp said Spacey made sexual advances toward him in 1985.

The actor was booted from the Netflix political drama "House of Cards" a year ago after he was accused of sexual assault and harassment.

But Spacey's role in Billionaire Boys Club wasn't scrapped - its distributor Vertical Entertainment told TheWrap that they hoped the "distressing allegations pertaining to one person's not tarnish the release".

The company made a decision to release the film as they did not think the "reprehensible allegations of one person's past" should be at the expense of the entire cast and crew.

In the film Spacey plays a real-life Beverly Hills identity named Ron Levin.
