Danny Cipriani issues apology for assault in Jersey

Cipriani was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £250 compensation, reportedly to a female police officer whose neck he bruised.

English rugby outhalf Danny Cipriani has been arrested and charged by police after reportedly attacking a police officer at a nightclub.

The 30-year-old, who only recently returned to the global fold, has been remanded in custody until a hearing on Thursday.

"This is why I pleaded guilty to these two charges and all other charges were dropped by the prosecution". He has been remanded in custody until a court appearance at magistrates court at 10am tomorrow.

The club confirmed he had been arrested and charged and that he will be appearing in court.

The altercation was said to have taken place at The Little Drift nightclub in St Helier where Cipriani had been staying with members of the Gloucester team for their pre-season tour.

England and Gloucester flyhalf Danny Cipriani has pleaded guilty to assault at a Jersey court this morning.

She suffered bruising after Cipriani pushed her in the chest and grabbed her collar and shirt in the incident in St Helier in the early hours of yesterday.

The fly-half recently joined Gloucester and returned to the England squad in the summer after a four year absence. In a statement, Gloucester Rugby CEO Stephen Vaughan said the club was "very disappointed" with their new signing's actions.

He has only played 16 times for England since he first broke onto the global scene aged 20 in 2008.

He started a Test for England for the first time for 10 years against South Africa in Cape Town in June.
