Emery informed his squad on Friday morning of the hierarchy on the eve of a new campaign which begins with Sunday's visit of champions Manchester City to Emirates Stadium. A first half goal from Raheem Sterling followed by an excellent left-footed strike by Bernardo Silva on 64 minutes sealed the victory for the reigning holders.

Arsenal have also signed Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno, Lorient teenager Matteo Guendouzi and Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos in a busy summer transfer window.

"I think every player and every coach and every supporter also is excited to start Sunday and to watch the match". I think in the majority of games he'll go with 4-2-3-1 but against the top sides like City he may opt for an extra body in the middle of the park and go 4-3-3. "I thought we did it pretty well".
