He had a good pre-season - he was one of the guys who had a complete pre-season playing every match and training for five weeks'.

Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba had different takes on Manchester United's penalty debate on Friday night.

"He worked amazingly well Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and he's one of the players that I have to speak to see how physically and mentally he feels".

Pogba was surprisingly named as a starter by Jose Mourinho, having only returned to training last week.

But due to Mourinho's lack of options Pogba was asked if he could play - and as you would expect, he said yes.

Neither side were able to put out their strongest side with players returning from the World Cup and Vardy, Lukaku and Young among those on the bench, while Andreas Pereira played in midfield for Mourinho.

A troubled period at United and tensions with Mourinho saw Shaw fall down the pecking order and gradually become overlooked by the England national team.

Deadline day round-up: Kovacic in at Chelsea, all quiet at Manchester United
He said: "I have my players, I like my players, I like to work with my players. As a Man United fan, winning is the most important thing".

José Mourinho does not expect any Manchester United deadline-day signings
Mourinho warned last weekend that a "difficult season" could lie ahead if they failed to strengthen the squad before the deadline. Having previously managed Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Guardiola is used to high expectations.

On Pogba, the boss says he will have a chat with him to see if he is ready for action after arriving late from post World Cup break.

He added: "I had my plans for many months and I find myself in the beginning of the Premier League, with the market closed, I find myself in a situation which I did not think I was going to be in. That's football management. I think football is changing and managers should be called head coaches".

The crowd went wild as players surrounded the World Cup victor, but one fan, who was named after the great George Best was celebrating more than most.

Pogba, fresh from his triumph in Russian Federation with France but also the subject of recent transfer speculation, was named captain by manager Jose Mourinho and took responsibility for the penalty after a handball by Daniel Amartey, slowly shuffling up before beating Kasper Schmeichel.

"Harry started and played well, Jamie came in with good quality and scored". "We thought maximum [he could play] 60 minutes, but he managed 80".

Sanchez ticks all the boxes you want from your forward, so it is very hard to leave him out.

Mourinho is now unbeaten in all 18 of his opening league matches of a season as a manager and has won nine out of 10 in the Premier League.
