Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth may not be in Star Trek 4

It was announced that Chris Pine would return to the role of Captain Kirk, which he's played in the three previous films and Chris Hemsworth to return as his (possibly time-traveling father) George Kirk, a role he last played in the 2009 reboot, following the release of Star Trek Beyond in July of 2016.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the talks between the Chrises' representation and Paramount have stalled with both sides walking away from negotiations. That's the question Paramount Pictures is now facing as the actor has walked away from negotiations for the sequel. Those execs are now saying, in light of the tepid performance of Star Trek Beyond, they need to dial back the budget on this film and would like to pay the actors less than they were initially promised or usually get.

Chris Pine has always been expected to reprise his role as Captain James T. Kirk, a character originated by William Shatner. Both of those scenarios are all but impossible to imagine, especially without the star power of the superhero headliners (Pine co-stars in DC's Wonder Woman films, while Hemsworth leads Marvel's Thor franchise). The future of Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth's involvement in the project is apparently in jeopardy. Or Pine and Hemsworth could re-enter talks with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media.

As far as Pine and Hemsworth's teams are concerned, however, they should not have to renegotiate less money just because the franchise is not performing as well as originally expected. An insider for the studio claims that they "lost money on the movie".

However, a move did not materialise and Mourinho must now work with the same central defensive setup as he did last season. Maybe next season we will go to the transfer window a little more active.

Tarantino is a long-time Trek fan - don't forget the opening screen for "Kill Bill" told of the old Klingon proverb that says revenge is a dish best served cold - and in an interview with Nerdist he said that he considers the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" one of the best "Star Trek" episodes ever written.

It's not yet clear what will happen to Star Trek 4 from this point on.

The next Star Trek film could be much different than we initially anticipated. Why? The 2009 movie made only $385 million worldwide, but it made $257 million from domestic receipts. Paramount proper now has no comment on this situation.
