Zach Smith, the school's former wide receivers coach, was sacked July 23, days after Courtney filed for a protection order against him and hours after domestic abuse allegations from 2009 and 2015 were revealed.

The school press release issued Sunday night indicated that former Ohio House Speaker Jo Ann Davidson was appointed to head up the "independent working group" looking into Meyer's actions. Ohio State coach Urban Meyer is now on paid administrative leave as the school investigates the way the 2015 accusation was handled within the football program. "While The Ohio State University has never contacted Ms. Smith to discuss these allegations, she will fully cooperate with the university's current investigation".

Zach Smith, a grandson of late Buckeyes coach Earle Bruce, who was a mentor to Meyer, also asserted that he had never harmed her and that the head coach handled the allegations appropriately. "We can't have someone like this coaching young men". The wide-receivers coach/recruiting coordinator was sacked July 24 after his ex-wife sought a restraining order against him. "I said: 'That's fine, you should tell Urban".

"Ms. Smith is cautiously optimistic that The Ohio State University's investigative committee will determine if proper reporting protocol was followed upon learning of the ongoing, abuse allegations against Zach Smith", Leveridge said in her statement.

NCAA approves basketball rules changes: agents allowed, undrafted players can return
Say Maryland's Kevin Huerter, for example, didn't get drafted in the first two rounds - he'd be able to play for the Terps again. The rule changes are aimed at giving basketball student-athletes more flexibility for going pro and also earning a degree.

After initially denying any knowledge of the 2015 accusations against Zach Smith, Meyer has since recanted and now claims he followed protocol and told school officials.

Among the chanting, sign-waving crowd was Stacy Elliott, father of former Ohio State and current Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, who was suspended for six games last season while the National Football League investigated domestic violence accusations against him.

It's unclear, of course, if the smaller raise had anything to do with the domestic violence accusations against Smith in 2015.

OSU launched its probe after Courtney Smith, who divorced Zach Smith in 2016, reportedly provided evidence that she told Meyers wife at the time of Smiths alleged abuse in 2015.
