Ruby Rose Cast As Batwoman for CW's Arrowverse

The CW has confirmed Batwoman will be out in the TV series.

Earlier today, it was announced that Ruby Rose has been officially cast as Kate Kane/Batwoman, with the goal of having her debut in this year's Arrowverse crossover before (potentially) headlining a solo series. Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) will serve as the writer and will exec produce, along with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns.

A wealthy heiress with a penchant for kicking some criminal keister, Batwoman was first introduced in 1956 as a love interest for Batman in an attempt to quash the homosexual aspersions made by psychiatrist Fredric Wertham in his book Seduction of the Innocent, which claimed that comic books were corrupting the youth of the nation.

If you're a comic book geek, that's a significant detail as it dramatically increases the chances that either Batwoman's own series or the other Arrowverse shows could at some point feature Batman himself.

The "crossover" event will see Rose's Batwoman team up with Green Arrow (Stephen Amell), The Flash (Grant Gustin), Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and the DC Legends, potentially including Atom (Brandon Routh), White Canary (Cathy Loitz), Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) and John Constantine (Matt Ryan).

But don't call her a hero yet.

The CW has found its live-action Batwoman star in Ruby Rose, reports Variety.

The coveted role of Kate Kane a.k.a. Batwoman has been filled! There's no air date for the crossover event as yet. She next appears in The Meg. And while details are still relatively slim about how Kate Kane will make her grand entrance into the Arrowverse, this casting shows that it's being set in motion.

All hail our new Batwoman. I'm pretty sure she may have secretly actually been Batwoman this entire time.

Most recently, Batwoman has been one of the stars of the relaunched Detective Comics by James Tynion IV and finally has her own solo series again.

This is a logical move for both Ruby Rose and The CW.
