The Daily Mail claim Pogba sent a text to executive vice-chairman Woodward telling him of his desire to leave United this week.

Pogba is "disillusioned" with life in Manchester after a season of being at odds wiht his manager, Jose Mourinho.

According to Spanish publication Sport, Barcelona have made a decision to end their pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.

Referring to reports that Pogba's agent, Mino Raiola, is looking at the Camp Nou as a possible new home for his player, Ferdinand said: "Don't you dare allow this ED. #MUFC is Pogba's home!" You have to speak to Manchester United'.

Pogba is known to have been particularly upset that his manager did not take the opportunity to praise his World Cup success with France during United's recent tour of the USA, instead using it to make a veiled criticism of his attitude and commitment.

It is also reported from Spain that one more additional reason as to why Manchester United couldn't sell Pogba to Barcelona was that it is impossible for them to find a replacement for Poba before the Premier League transfer ends on 9th August.

He has struggled to justify his transfer fee over the past two years but blames his restricted role in Mourinho's side and the 55-year-old's tactics for his patchy form.

He returned to Carrington for training over the weekend amid intense speculation surrounding Toby Alderweireld and Jerome Boateng.

United sources are suspicious that Raiola is also trying to use Barcelona's interest as a way of earning Pogba a pay rise on his £200,000-a-week deal he signed in 2016.

Defender Yerry Mina as well as midfielders Andre Gomes, Ivan Rakitic and forward Ousmane Dembele are all wanted by the Special One.

Everton and Wolves will provide competition for the signing of Mina who impressed at the World Cup with Colombia.

United have rejected out of hand a double player-plus-cash deal for Pogba from the Spanish club.

It remains to be seen if they stick to their guns on Pogba or entertain an improved bid that could involve other Barca stars being offered in exchange before Thursday's deadline.
