Gareth Southgate's side are preparing for a quarter-final against Sweden in Samara on Saturday as they bid to reach the last four of the tournament for the first time in 28 years.

England midfielder Eric Dier has told ESPN Brasil he wants the team to inspire future generations after they reached a first World Cup semifinal since 1990.

"We're one step closer to doing that but we still know that we've got games ahead of us". I'd like to pay tribute to both the team and the coach.

England fans celebrate as England score their second goal, as they watch the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup quarter-final football match between Sweden and England on a big screen in London.

"I believe that they will be perfectly able to go all the way".

Breathe it in ladies and gentlemen, England are in a World Cup semi-final.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that England will now meet, on Wednesday in Moscow, the victor of the Russian Federation versus Croatia quarter final clash later Saturday in Sochi.

Serena Williams wins again at Wimbledon, closes in on Grand Slam No
Asked before the match what she made of Serena's form, Giorgi had replied: "I don't know, I don't follow women's tennis". She controlled the set as Giorgi put no more than 43% of her first serves in. "'I'll just keep fighting", Williams said.

Mercedes point finger at Ferrari's 'interesting tactics'
Kimi Raikkonen ruined Lewis Hamilton's race at the British Grand Prix when he tagged the Brit, pitching him into a spin. Bottas, still on medium tires, was soon struggling, and Ferrari was celebrating when Raikkonen went past to go third.

'I got over that (penalty) pretty quickly, just getting focused on the next game, ' he said. Once again Lindelof was a major part of that: Disrupting England and making it hard for them to play through the lines and utilise their movement and pace.

There was emotional scenes in Russian Federation and at home among the England fans, who have long suffered from tournament heartbreak. For the first half-an-hour or so we had things under control until they get that corner and they score, 1-0, and that sets us back behind a team playing a five-man defence.

Southgate feels privileged to "connect everyone through football" and hopes to keep the party going back home.

The darting runs expected of Alli and Jesse Lingard did not arrive with the frequency or potency Southgate desires, while Raheem Sterling's dynamic running badly needs a goal to settle his nerves. "Since the beginning of the tournament, we've seen the big teams struggling against other teams that some considered to be weak".

Within 60 seconds of the restart, Sweden had their first shot on target and Jordan Pickford made a tough one-handed save on Marcus Berg's downward header.

Like several of his team-mates Alli has experienced life away from football's top table and was plying his trade with MK Dons during the last World Cup.
