Users also have the option to search the web for shows not yet indexed by Google, and add them to the app.

Google announced the new feature for Android Messages on Monday and will roll it out over the next week. Just like the mobile app, the web client supports texts, images, stickers, and more.

This brings Android further into line with iOS on one of the few areas it lagged - Apple users have been able to do this via iMessage for years.

Today's news underscores that Google thinks its best shot at success in the messaging space is Android Messages, rather than its failed Allo messaging app.

Meanwhile, users will also be delighted to know that Messages for web will support sending of stickers, emoji, and image attachments like amusing GIF memes.

If you're going to be a viable competitor to iMessage, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and other chat platforms, a desktop version is pretty critical.

Network provider approval is needed for SMS messages to be replaced by Google's ambitious RCS plan.

All things being equal, you should be able to start sending and receiving text messages on desktop and mobile. Using the Android Messages app on your phone, tap the three-dot menu and select "Messages for web" before scanning the QR code. It should not come as a surprise as the tech giant has already given enough hints that it will be favoring the RCS based Android Messages. Then visit the Android Messages website, which should display a huge QR code.

In addition to this, the company also stated how to search for and send gif files using the app. Google has been adding new features to the app for some time now. It's a feature that could be pretty useful to hearing-impaired people or for anyone who is listening in a noisy environment.

Another highly-useful feature is the ability to copy one time passwords and verification codes from a notification and paste into the password field. You'll also receive proactive suggestions for material relating to a given episode if you want to learn more about that topic.
