Changes coming to YouTube later this month

The company will roll out YouTube Music on May 22 in markets that now support its YouTube Red subscription service.

YouTube Music initially launches only in five markets, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea.

He said YouTube Music will offer millions of official tracks and thousands of playlists as well as a catalogue of remixes, live performances, covers and music videos. If you're a Google Play Music subscriber, then you're getting YouTube Music Premium for free.

According to Recode, YouTube Music will eventually replace Google Play Music, Google's very similar music streaming service. Meanwhile, to those wanting to have an uninterrupted music-listening experience, they can pay for a $9.99 subscription fee per month for the YouTube Music Premium.

For the $11.99 price, YouTube Premium will also roll in the new YouTube Music service. The audio-visual app promises "music videos and deep cuts that you can't find anywhere else" suggesting that exclusive content will differentiate YouTube Music from its competitors.

On Thursday morning, YouTube introduced an evolution of its paid YouTube Red service.

The revamped YouTube Music and new YouTube Premium were announced last night, but many questions linger ahead of the rolling launch next Tuesday. Well, for those of you accustomed to using YouTube for free, there will a free, ad-supported version of YouTube Music.

The new music service will see YouTube compete with the likes of Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Deezer, and its own Google Play Music.

"YouTube was made for video, not just music", explained Elias Roman, Product Manager, YouTube Music, in a blog post. Of course, the YouTube Originals are also still here. So does Google Play Music.

Interestingly, YouTube Premium includes YouTube Music Premium.

The advantage of building a music service around YouTube is that it has content that other services don't have.
