President Donald Trump commuted the sentence of Alice Johnson, who was sentenced in 1997 on money laundering and drug conspiracy charges. Kardashian West shared Johnson's enthusiasm.

Johnson's commutation precedes a number of prison-related actions Trump is considering, CNN reported. "Telling her and hearing her screams while crying together is a moment I will never forget".

Ms Johnson received a life sentence in 1996, when she was found guilty for being part of a cocaine ring. "Because there are so many, as you've said, like me, who need to have the opportunity that I've had", she told GMA's Michael Strahan.

Another attorney, Brittany K. Barnett, said earlier that Johnson feels overwhelmed with emotion and like she's been "resurrected from the dead". "It is our hope that the President will grant clemency to Ms. Alice Marie Johnson who is serving a life sentence for a first-time, non-violent drug offense", Kardashian West said in a statement after meeting with Trump.

Hours after President Donald Trump granted clemency to Alice Johnson, she was released from prison. I've even been so honest to say, 'Look, Trump is the last person I thought that would've done this.' But he did.

Johnson admitted that she didn't know much about Kardashian before the starlet became involved in her case.

Trump is moving more quickly to exercise his pardon power than recent presidents.

The reality television star's boasted her controversial meet up with Trump last week, which she attended to vouch for Johnson's release.

Ivanka Trump was one of the first people she called to plead Johnson's case, Kardashian said. When asked what it was like to see her family for the first time since she was freed, Johnson rejoiced that she wasn't wearing handcuffs.

Cameras captured Johnson's reunion with family members Wednesday night after a van transported her outside the prison.

Trump last week pardoned conservative commentator and filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza, convicted of making illegal campaign contributions. "Once Alice's family joined the call, the tears never stopped flowing".

"The presidential pardon holds a special resonance for Trump, representing one area where he has nearly unchecked power as other aspects of his presidency... remain outside his control", The Post says. "Her commutation is inspirational & gives hope to so many others who are also deserving of a second chance", Kardashian West tweeted.
