Fashion designer Kate Spade found dead

Law enforcement officials say NY fashion designer Kate Spade has been found dead in her apartment in an apparent suicide.

Law enforcement officials "confirm she was found at 10:20 a.m. EST" and was pronounced dead at the scene.

United States media are reporting that the 55-year-old died in an apparent suicide and that she was found by her housekeeper at 10.20am local time.

Officials, who spoke to The Associated Press news agency on condition of anonymity, said a note was found at the scene.

Cole returned to social media hours later and reworked his tribute, writing: "Kate Spade left an indelible mark on the fashion industry and her inspiring life and work will be missed".

Tapestry Inc, the handbag company formerly known as Coach, bought the company from Spade in May a year ago for US$2.4 billion.

Born in Kansas City in 1962, Spade rose to prominence in the '90s with her vibrant line of handbags.

The luxury fashion company Coach announced it was purchasing the company for $2.4 billion a year ago.

Kate sold her high end label in 2007 and launched a new fashion brand in 2016 called Frances Valentine, named after her daughter. While working there, she moved in with her husband-to-be, Andy Spade (brother of David Spade). After the success of their initial handbag line, the brand expanded to clothing, shoes, eyewear, perfume, stationery and more accessories.

Spade leaves behind her husband and the couple's one daughter, Frances Beatrix Spade.

New York City police have confirmed that they are investigating the apparent suicide of fashion designer Kate Spade.

For those of you who don't know, Kate Spade was earlier a journalist.

Spade's sister, Eve Brosnahan, also reportedly told the outlet: "It's very hard".

"My grandmother gave me my first Kate Spade bag when I was in college", Clinton tweeted.

Since then, the Times reports Spade and her husband devoted themselves to family and philanthropy.
