According to Dr. Nagarkar, Roy first developed cancer in his kidneys in 2000, "He underwent extensive chemotherapy and surgery and succeeded in removing those tumours from his kidneys". But I was, and I remain, in disbelief that Himanshu took his life because he was made of a different mettle.

In conversation with Mumbai Live's reporter Bhagyeshree Bhuvad with the Executive Director of Humanity Care Center and Cancerologist, Dr. Raj Nagarkar informed that "Roy was responsing well to the treatment".

The prosecutor recalled that through the last discussions from the 26/11 Mumbai attack case, Mr Roy, afterward combined commissioner of police, sat through the discussions. "He was extremely sharp", said ex-Mumbai police commissioner Arup Patnaik, reported Firstpost. He was a policeman par excellence. What gave him edge over his peers in the police department in handling economic offences was that he was a chartered accountant by qualification. He was leading the investigation into the IPL betting scandal. Not many know that Himanshu worked for a top chartered accountancy firm before he appeared for the UPSC exam.

Himanshu Roy, from the 1988 batch of Indian Police Service (IPS), was earlier part of the Anti-Terror Squad of Maharashtra before being appointed as the additional director general of police in November 2016.
