Karnataka Campaigning Intensifies as Modi, Gandhi Trade Accusations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed a public rally in Kalaburagi and said that very few people benefit when Congress wins an election.

Hitting at the Reddy brothers, two of whom are contesting from the BJP, Gandhi accused PM Modi of trying to "unleash the "Gabbar Singh gang" upon Karnataka".

Modi took a dig at the Congress for portraying the BJP as a party of Banias and Brahmins, and said the BJP was above caste and religious lines as a tea-seller like him, who belonged to a backward community, had become the Prime Minister. "They (Congress governments) neglected and insulted Field Marshal (KM) Cariappa", Modi said.

The poll is scheduled to be held on May 12. "Modi is aware about the happenings in Karnataka politics, and also what Rahul Gandhi said about me".

He rubbished pollsters' prediction about a hung Assembly and asserted that the BJP would form a government on its own as people have made up their mind to "demolish the Congress's last fortress".
