Beijing installs missiles on South China Sea islands

According to USA report, the missiles have been shifted to Fiery Cross Reef, Subi Reef and Mischief Reef within the past 30 days.

She said the administration has brought its concerns "directly" to the Chinese government, and also stated that China will face "near term and long term consequences" for the missile installations. China has been building artificial islands on reefs in the area between Vietnam and the Philippines for the past several years as it flexes its military might over claims it owns the islands.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said her nation has been involved in peaceful construction in the islands, which includes "the deployment of necessary national defense facilities".

Fiery Cross Reef in January 2018 - one of the locations of the missile deployments.

The Spratly archipelago is disputed from six countries: Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Philippines and Brunei.

"(It's) very important for us to be present and the recent ship visits that I mentioned are directly relevant to the situation we have in the South China Sea... "Visits of ships are really fantastic, ships (and) carriers demonstrate our commitment to the US-Philippines alliance, the region, and also to do whatever we can to protect global flights, freedom of navigation and overflight", Kim said during the "Kapihan sa Embahada" at the US Embassy in Manila. "All we can do is manage it", Koh said.

The Pentagon has urged Beijing to refrain from the militarization of the Islands and peacefully resolve territorial disputes with other States.

U.S. Adm. Philip Davidson said last month that China's forward operating bases appear to already be complete.

Asked about the report, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said there would be consequences but not what they would be.

"The only thing lacking are the deployed forces", he said.
