Initially, this date was taken as the ideal opportunity to reflect on the working conditions of salaried workers and to remember those who lost their lives fighting for this cause.

Labour Day is also known as the International Workers' Day and has its origins in the late 19th century workers movement and the emergence of powerful trade unions. Since then, May Day can be considered a day of reflection but also of action.

May Day celebrations, also known as International Workers Day started in Chicago in 1886, when workers demanded and won an eight-hour workday, today it will be celebrated by workers from Albania to Zaire.
