Donald Trump attacks New York Times journalist over Michael Cohen article

In three tweets, Trump claimed that the Times and its "third rate reporter" and "crooked H flunkie" Maggie Haberman were "going out of their way to destroy Michael Cohen and his relationship with me in the hope that he will 'flip'".

But Trump suspected that his longtime lawyer would remain loyal and not help the Russian Federation investigation, which he called a "horrible Witch Hunt".

Following a recent Federal Bureau of Investigation raid on Cohen's house, The Washington Post revealed that Cohen is being investigated for possible bank fraud and campaign finance violations related to questionable payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels (Stephanie Clifford).

FBI agents raided Cohen's home, hotel room and office last week as part of what was ultimately revealed to be an ongoing criminal investigation into his business dealings.

The high-profile White House correspondent has had remarkable access to the president and his inner circle, which she's used to land some of the biggest palace intrigue stories of the Trump White House - including about Trump's recent "meltdown" following the Cohen raid.

"When I was reporting this story, I said to one person who's observed the Cohen-Trump relationship that Trump has been abusive to him", she tweeted.

Cohen told Vanity Fair in September he would "take a bullet" for his boss.
