Tesla Model 3 Production Aims for 3000 Units Per Week

In recent days, Musk indicated that Tesla had initially over-automated the Model 3 assembly process, telling CBS This Morning host Gayle King in an interview that Tesla had installed too many robots in an effort to automate production.

"Starting today at Giga and tomorrow at Fremont, we will be stopping for three to five days to do a comprehensive set of upgrades".

According to stock analyst Jim Collins, Musk's leaked email raises more questions than it answers, including how another shift at Model 3 production lines will impact Tesla's costs, how an auto maker can manufacture cars 24/7, and what the core profit margin of the Model 3 is.

To add to the extra shifts, Tesla has chose to hire 400 workers a week for several weeks.

Overshooting the previous production goal by 1,000 cars per week is necessary to account for potential issues in Tesla's complex supply chain, Musk reportedly said in the email to employees.

Although it's quite obvious that Musk can afford to replace his own furniture with his estimate $20 billion worth, Tesla fans are a dedicated bunch that often praise the founder for his drive to transform technology to run on sustainable energy rather than the more harmful fuels.

The video shows a bad looking couch which must be hard to sleep on and Musk confessed that he had to sleep on the floor because the couch was too narrow. "It tells me something's not quite right".

Tesla had previously targeted 2,500 Model 3s a week by the end of the first quarter and 5,000 by the end of the second quarter. "Also, many contracts are essentially open time & materials, not fixed price and duration, which creates an incentive to turn molehills into mountains, as they never want to end the money train".
