As part of Alvarez's suspension, he must pay for and provide NAC with negative test results, both in and out of competition, during intervals of 21, 15 and three days before his next fight in Nevada.

Middleweight boxer Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has been suspended for six months for a failed test for steroids, pushing the date for a rematch with Gennady Golovkin further back.

Alvarez claimed he tested positive for clenbuterol only because he ate tainted meat in his native Mexico, However, Golovkin said Alvarez has a reputation for using performance-enhancing drugs. She told the panel that Alvarez had been "very professional" during commission executive director Bob Bennett's investigation, came to Las Vegas willingly to meet with him and had produced documents related to the case.

However, despite the Mexican fighter since blaming contaminated meat in his home country for the failed tests, Khan is adamant he shouldn't be given a second chance. "The Nevada commissioners agreed to it Wednesday. Canelo and Golden Boy Promotions respect the rules of Nevada and are therefore satisfied with the settlement agreement reached today", Golden Boy Promotions said in a statement (via the Associated Press). Although the commission was never able to prove Alvarez ingested the drug knowingly, it cited its own bylaws that Alvarez's positive sample alone was a violation of anti-doping regulations.
