Two points separate the teams and Arsenal's focus is now on winning the Europa League to qualify for next season's Champions League. Burnley picked up maximum points at Turf Moor on Saturday as they beat Leicester City 2-1.

Kenedy clipped the woodwork on the break but the miss counted for little, with Arsenal's faint top-four hopes all but over as they now face a battle to stay in the top six.

Iwobi whistled a left-foot shot just wide with 23 minutes remaining, but Newcastle took the lead seconds later when Perez flicked Slimani's knock-down into Ritchie's path and he blasted a shot past Cech.

"It's not the first time we were 1-0 up away and we didn't get anything in the game".

"In the Europa League, we have a semi-final to play, so we need to make sure we are ready".

Arsenal fans have seen their star players leave, bad performances, have staged protests and put up banners, now they are absent for games and perhaps rightly seek changes.

Real Madrid join Juventus in Emre Can's chase
The midfielder impressed for Real in victory at Malaga yesterday, scoring against his former club for the win. Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Raphael Varane were also spared the trip to La Rosaleda.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, playing for the first time together, had linked up for Arsenal's opener in the 14th minute.

Only two points short of reaching the magical total of 40 for the season, Newcastle responded in the ideal manner and found the equaliser in the 29th-minute when Perez's side-footed DeAndre Yedlin's cross in at Petr Cech's near-post.

After taking the lead, the visitors took control of the game for the next ten minutes or so and they nearly got a second goal when a good passing move ended with Alex Iwobi forcing a good save from Martin Dúbravka.

Arsenal have now lost 11 league games this season.

Ayoze Perez equalised just before the half-hour mark, running in past Shkodran Mustafi, to guide in DeAndre Yedlin's cross at the near post.

Against Newcastle United this past weekend, the team didn't even try to win which was shocking, to say the least.
