In that time period, "60 Minutes" counted dozens of in-flight mishaps and in-flight emergencies on Allegiant's planes.

It says Allegiant had more than 40 in-flight emergencies or unscheduled landings in 2016, and is nearly four times more likely to experience a mid-flight breakdown than Delta, United or American airlines. The audit is a voluntary review conducted by the International Air Transport Association to assess the management and control systems of an airline.

"We are aware of Sunday's 60 Minutes report involving Allegiant Air and its safety record", Concord City Manager Lloyd Payne said in a statement.

The FAA is recognized around the world as the gold standard with regard to transportation safety, and as a result, the airline industry in the US has never been safer.

We have also not heard back from the FAA for comment.

Gust said it has come to the airline's attention that a terminated employee now engaged in a lawsuit seeking monetary damages from the company instigated the report. "Yet for the most part, allegiant's difficulties have managed to stay under the radar of the flying public", CBS News' "60 Minutes" reported Sunday.

On its social media feed, Allegiant answered those who tweeted they were anxious by asking them to send a private message.

"I hate to make comparisons, but we've seen that before in airlines that are no longer with us that had experienced a number of accidents and killed a bunch of people", he said, before adding that he would tell his friends and family not to fly with the carrier.

"It is unfortunate and disappointing that CBS 60 Minutes has chosen to air a false narrative about Allegiant and the FAA". "But, according to federal aviation records and interviews with pilots, mechanics and industry experts, it may also be the most unsafe", CBS News' 60 Minutes reports. To suggest that Allegiant would engage in the practice of asking team members to violate company and regulatory obligations is offensive and defamatory.

An engine caught on fire mid-flight during one incident, while in another, hazardous hydraulic fluid dubbed Skydrol 4 filled a cabin still full of passengers. That pilot, Jason Kinzer, claims that he was wrongfully terminated after an evacuation.

"We found little in the way of incrementally negative data points concerning Allegiant's operational challenges over the past few years on last night's 60 Minutes", Stifel analyst Joseph DeNardi wrote in a note to clients Monday.

Ratliff also said he trust the FAA to put safety first by making sure an airline is doing everything right, and that Allegiant is under pressure from this report to be doing everything right now. We have safely carried almost 90 million passengers since beginning operations in 2001.
