"I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me, threatening the health of so many others, which couldn't be further from the truth". "This is actually irrelevant to the public, but an ex-boyfriend has threatened to go public with this private information, and I will not give anyone the right to frighten me and influence my life in the future". While she said her family has supported her "unconditionally since day one", she did not want to bring them any attention for having an HIV-positive relative.

"Secondly, it is information that I believe is mainly relevant to those people with whom I could have sexual contact".

Conchita, a gay rights activist since the beginning of her career, showed the world she was an active and influential person, and she kept the same attitude when addressing the recent events. As a result, she is below the detection limit of the virus and is unable to pass it on. Thus, she is not able to transmit the virus. Until relatively recently contracting the HIV virus was widely regarded as deadly, as the infection would progress to acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), undermining patients' ability to fight off disease.

It is maintained at this level by regular medication and takes around six months to achieve after being initially diagnosed with the virus. Moreover, it could no longer be detected in her blood and could not be passed on. However, the possibility is still there, meaning that, even if the concern should not be as high, prevention methods are yet suggested.

With this post, Tom hopes to build courage and "take another step against the stigmatization of people who have become infected by HIV". It's unfortunate that she had to share her message under apparent threat of blackmail, but now that she's shared it, Conchita is making a powerful statement.

"You are a referent to a lot of people, some of them are very young and live in fear, but today you have changed thousands of lives being fearless, fighting the blackmail and rising once again full of light", claimed a social media user.
