AMD finally opened up pre-orders for its second-generation of Ryzen chips last week, with the processors set to arrive this Thursday (April 19).

Although we've seen hints, leaks and teases of AMD's next-generation refresh of its Ryzen CPUs, AMD has now officially announced them, detailing the 2600, 2600X, the 2700 and the 2700X. All the new CPU's use the Zen+ architecture based on the 12nm manufacturing process. TSAIK was able to run this CPU at 5884MHz (5.8 GHz) across all 8 cores using the MSI X470 GAMING M7 AC motherboard.

2700 - eight cores, 16 threads, 20MB of cache.

In order to push these CPUs so high, liquid nitrogen was used for cooling.

To give you a better idea of just how impressive these overclocks are, the Ryzen 7 2700X can achieve a maximum boost frequency of 4.3 GHz on a single-core with the help of Extended Frequency Range 2 (XFR2). One for the Ryzen 7 2700X, which was pushed all the way up to 5884.24MHz and one for the Ryzen 5 2600X, which ended up hitting 5882.97MHz. The 2700 model will come with single-color Spire LED cooler, while the 2600X and 2600 will come with regular "Wraith" coolers.

Additionally AMD has also launched their new X470 chipset motherboards which use the same AM4 mount as the previous gen X370 boards.

TSAIK manages to get the Ryzen 5 2600X up to a slightly slower speed of 5.882GHz, which was no mean feat either, particularly as the processor tops out at 4.2GHz out of the box. AMD is scheduled to launch the new Zen chips on April 19. For the ones that AMD announced on Friday in a press release, two of them will have eight cores and 16 threads each, while the other two have six cores and 12 threads. That's a bit faster than the 2700, for a power draw of 95 W. For those looking for a chip that's easier to cool down, both the Ryzen 7 2700 and the Ryzen 5 2600 only pulls 65 W. Existing 300 series boards will be compatible with the new CPUs with a simple firmware upgrade in the BIOS. It's still a six-core processor with 12 threads, and capable of a max boost speed of 3.9 GHz.
