Manchester City have won the 2017-18 English Premier League title after city rivals, Manchester United lost 1-0 to West Brom at Old Trafford on Sunday.

United's comeback at the Etihad from a 2-0 half-time deficit offered their supporters a rare fillip of flair and excitement after a hard season where their style of play has hardly endeared Jose Mourinho to the club's fanbase.

Speaking after the game, the former Real Madrid boss said: "I won eight titles and I am not on the moon because I won against Manchester City".

"City won the title because they won more points than everyone else, not tell City they won title because United did not win, it is not fair on them".

"I don't know if I was the first or second or third, but I congratulated them face to face when I had the chance", Mourinho said.

City were hoping to become champions next Sunday if they win Swansea City at the Etihad, but with United's defeat at home to West Brom, the trophy came early.

"It hurts [for Manchester City to win the title]".

'I saw lots of people on the moon because we won against Manchester City. During the week I was trying to fight that. Paul Pogba was his usual frustrating self whilst United reverted back to their usual sterile brand of football which fans have been subjected to so often at Old Trafford this season.

And it was achieved by playing a brand of football that has had the purists purring all season, with City racking up 93 goals so far and on course to top the 100-point barrier.

The pinnacle of Arsene Wenger's Arsenal reign remains the "Invincibles" - only the second team to go through an English top-flight season without losing a single game after Preston's unbeaten feat in 1889.

He said: "We won the Carabao Cup and that was a step in the right direction for me but to be competing in the Premier League since I was 19 and to play all the games I played in the Premier League, to not win the Premier League, it was a bit devastating for me not to have won it with Tottenham".

"In my experience you don't win titles with inconsistency, you win titles with quality but you win titles with consistency at every level".

"Everything must be consistent until the last day".

"We just keep fighting one game at a time", he added.

The first half was a awful advert for the English top-flight.

The second half was not much better but Foster did wonderfully well after 66 minutes to tip a Lukaku effort around the post before the visitors resistance was then unexpectedly rewarded with 17 minutes remaining. Nemanja Matic panicked at the delivery and headed back inside to Rodriguez, who could not miss from three yards out.
