MPs, celebrities and business leaders have launched a campaign calling for a public vote on the final Brexit deal between the United Kingdom and the EU.

Sir Patrick told the crowd that the day Britain joined the European Union on January 1, 1973, was one of the best days of his life.

The Conservative remainer then said that Brexit "hasn't exactly delivered quiet government" and instead delivered a "turbulent government". "It should not be a done deal".

"Brexit will affect everybody in the country, which is why it should not be left to 650 politicians to decide our future but 65 million people".

James MacCleary, the campaign director of European Movement UK, said: "The pro-European movement is gaining in strength and momentum, and that progress will be reflected this weekend with a huge demonstration of grassroots power in favour of a people's vote on the Brexit deal".

Green Party co-leader Caroline Lucas, also at the event, reassured attendees, saying: "We'll do everything we can in Parliament for a people's vote".
