Another rape reported in Surat sparks new protests

Despite the Gujarat Police leaving no stone unturned to trace the identity of 11-year-old girl, who was reportedly murdered after brutal sexual assault for nearly a week, cops are clueless about the girl's family as well as the accused.

The body was recovered from a cricket ground that comes under the jurisdiction of Pandesara Police Station in Surat on April 6.

"We found wounds on her body, which was between one to seven days old", the Surat Civil Hospital forensics head Ganesh Govekar said, according to ANI. Disturbingly, the body had nearly 86 injury marks on it, including some on her private parts, ANI reported.

In Kathua rape and murder case, police has charged nine including some senior police officers.

While the police had earlier said that a body of a girl had been found, details of the case were made public today with Surat Police Commissioner Satish Sharma holding a press conference.

As of now, the victim has not been identified and none has come forward to claim the body. "Even after eight days, the parents of the girl are yet to be identified".

Sharma said that probably the girl could belong to either Orissa or West Bengal and hence more focus is being given to zero-in on the identities of girls missing from these states.

The police have taken the help of print as well as social media to ascertain her identity. "We will also obtain a report from the forensic science laboratory as soon as possible", he said.

In the Unnao case, a 17-year-old girl has alleged that she was raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar at his residence on June 4, 2017. The Surat police has announced a reward of Rs 20,000 to anyone who provides information about the deceased or the perpetrators of the crime.
