New Jersey Governor Declares April 14 'Bon Jovi Day' in Garden State

TV and radio personality Howard Stern will induct Bon Jovi, and the New Jersey rockers are expected to perform at the ceremony with former guitarist Richie Sambora and ex-bassist Alec John Such. The band then transitioned into a segment of "Free Fallin' as lead singer Brandon Flowers urged the crowd of 10,000 to "get on your feet for the eternal Tom Petty". "I am considering doing one of the new songs and that is something that's just not done".

As has been the standard in recent years, HBO acquired the rights to be the sole network to air the Rock Hall induction. The Cars, founded in Boston in 1976, combined New Wave and classic rock sounds. Felicia Collins, best known has a member of the band on "Late Show with David Letterman", also wowed the audience when she performed a tribute to Tharpe.

Flowers will deliver the induction speech to welcome The Cars into the Hall.

Other artists who will be inducted are Dire Straits, Nina Simone and the Moody Blues.

Desmond Child, who co-wrote some of the band's biggest hits, says he'd "love to see them back together".

After months of anticipation, discussions and debate Bon Jovi, The Cars, Dire Straits and The Moody Blues will finally be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame tonight in Cleveland.

There was a moment Saturday evening outside of Public Auditorium when you couldn't hear anything but screams.

"When you consider that about 125 bands or acts in the Hall, and when you consider that every kid who has ever strummed a guitar in their garage strives to get to that place - I am proud to be associated with that", Bon Jovi says.

Another English band, Dire Straits, was inducted at the event, but it was without its leader Mark Knopfler, or his brother David Knopfler.

A flawless Brittany Howard, of the critically acclaimed rock act Alabama Shakes, gave an extraordinary Tharpe impression onstage, winning over the audience with her rousing live performance in honor of the godmother of rock "n" roll.
