Leaked screenshots reveal what's in store for browser users, including a number of new features that are now only available inside Google's mobile apps.

Google is working on a big redesign for Gmail on the web, it confirmed this week.

One thing shown that we weren't previously expecting is a new sidebar found on the far right. Another feature from Inbox that's making its way to Gmail is the ability to snooze messages until a specific date and time.

With the redesign, it's not clear whether Inbox will have much of a reason to stick around, but given the majority of Gmail users use the standard Web interface, it's probably a change for the better. The three options include a default view that highlights attachments, a comfortable view that does not highlight those attachments and a compact view that is nearly the same as the current Gmail design (for those who don't like change). It's less dramatic - and it's due to a security feature Google will test out on the new Gmail.

Google claims that app uses 40% less data when searching than the standard Google app, and weighs in at less than 5MB in total storage. Snoozing and smart replies are both already features of Google's Inbox app.

Google has released a search app created to take account of the prevalence of lower-end devices and slower connections across much of Africa and which allows consumers to use local languages.

If you're a fan of the current Gmail template, you don't have to worry! You'll soon be able to send expiring emails. Recipients will then receive an e-mail that requires them to click a link and input their Google credentials to view the e-mail.

According to the report, which cited a TechCrunch tipster named Chaim, Gmail's compose message pane will now also feature a lock with a clock in front of it.

The design - which looked more like the mobile app - could give a clue as to how the latest update will look, writes the Verge.

Google's Gmail redesign should be out in the next few weeks, with G Suite customers and personal accounts getting early access to it.
