The 2018 Slam Dunk Contest featured some of the NBA's top high-flyers, who pulled out all the stops Saturday night at Staples Center in Los Angeles, including retro jerseys and superhero gear. For example, Zach LaVine won the 2016 Slam Dunk Contest even though Aaron Gordon had some of the best dunks in the history of the competition.

The NBA dunk contest was a throwback in many ways, with a 21-year-old rookie and a 25-year-old, third-year pro fighting it out for the trophy.

Following his first flawless 50-point alley-oop dunk with one hand, Mitchell's final and winning dunk saw him break out into a Vince Carter Raptors jersey to complete his replication of the "It's over" pose used by Carter in 2000.

Mitchell paid homage to Vince Carter with his final dunk of the night, donning his jersey and matching one of Carter's iconic dunks. "This is one of my favorite events of All-Star Weekend". "I wasn't much of a basketball player".

Trey Songz arrested on felony domestic assault charge
Early on Monday morning, the Na Na singer surrendered himself to the Los Angeles Police Department over a felony domestic violence charge.

"It was obviously a big moment for my family, something I'll cherish forever", he said. "I've been seeing what he's been doing all year at his age, which is incredible". Although this dunk only got a 44 from the judges, I still think it was one of the best dunks of the night.

Victor Oladipo of the Indiana Pacers and Dennis Smith Jr of the Dallas Mavericks were eliminated after the first round. The Utah Jazz's Donovan Mitchell took down Nance with a combined 98 points in his final two dunks, beating out Nance's 96. The Phoenix Suns guard is averaging 24.2 points and 38.3 percent shooting this season, and he truly showed off his shooting by winning the three-point contest over Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors.

In the Skills Challenge that opened up Saturday night's hoopla, Spencer Dinwiddie of the Brooklyn Nets defeated rookie Lauri Markannen in the final round to win the title.
