IT administration has also been simplified to allow IT professionals to quickly configure and deploy Firefox Quantum for Enterprise.

"Added settings in about:preferences to stop websites from asking to send notifications or access your device's camera, microphone, and location, while still allowing trusted websites to use these features", the Firefox 59 release notes state. "For Mac, Linux, and Windows, administrators can simply include a JSON configuration file inside of Firefox's installation directory". This meant that although version 57 for Android had gained a new UI, it had not gained any actual speed updates.

As businesses have moved away from traditional applications in favour of their cloud variants, the web browser has quietly become the operating system for modern business software and now Mozilla has launched the beta version of Firefox Quantum to meet the demand of today's enterprise workflows. Firefox for Android had longstanding performance issues, so this was disappointing to see.

As reported previously by TechRepublic, Mozilla has a variety of privacy improvements planned for upcoming versions of Firefox, and those that come with Firefox 59 are only a small sampling of future changes.

If you're a huge fan of the Firefox browser and you use it for both your desktop and mobile browsing needs, then you probably look forward to each update.

The Firefox 59 will allow the users to drag and drop the Top sites on the Home page and will also allow users to add annotations and doodle over the saved screenshots. This should result in it being significantly faster than older Firefox versions, although we have not yet had a chance to try this out.

Aside from having Firefox Assist, the update also brings HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) support so that video compatibility for other video sites will be improved. Finally, Mozilla says that there are also "various security fixes" in this update.

The improvements in Firefox Quantum are based on the experimental new Servo engine. It's annoying, and it muddies the waters of the Web browser's user experience.
