On the other hand, Congress president Rahul Gandhi approved a list of ten candidates, which include only fresh faces as all out going members, barring senior leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, have been denied re-nominations.

Former Rajya Sabha member Dhiraj Prasad Sahu was nominated as Congress candidate from Jharkhand.

The BJP, which has a 45-member strength in the State Assembly, can easily win one Rajya Sabha seat and the party plans to spring a surprise by fielding a party worker. The three candidates are L Hanumanthaiah, Naseer Hussain and G.C Chandrashekar - a Dalit, A Muslim, and a Vokkaligga (a dominant OBC community), respectively.

The TMC has already its four candidats and its leader Mamta Banerjee has openly said her party would support Singhvi in the Rajya Sabha polls.

Congress also seems to be leaving nothing to chance after it faced one of the toughest Rajya Sabha elections in August previous year when senior leader Ahmed Patel won by a narrow margin. However, the fight will be between the third candidate of the Congress and JDS's Farooq. The Sena whose strength in the assembly is 63 has 21extra votes after it gets elected its one candidate.

His name was proposed by 40 MLAs - 20 each from the Congress and the TMC.
