The dominoes had been falling and then later Tuesday, it looked like the Cardinals put themselves in position for their short-term quarterback answer.

Sam Bradford plans to sign a one-year, $20 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals when free agency opens on Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.

The Minnesota Vikings acquired Bradford in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles after Teddy Bridgewater suffered a knee injury ahead of the 2016 season.

The 2008 Heisman Trophy victor who grew up in Oklahoma City threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 1 win over New Orleans, but suffered a hit that sidelined him for weeks, and a comeback was eventually cut short by knee surgery.

After sustaining a torn ACL during a Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers in 2013 while with the Rams, Bradford missed the entire 2014 season after injuring the same ACL during a preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

Bradford made a brief return in Week 5 against the Chicago Bears, but he was pulled before halftime after re-aggravating the injury.

The former Heisman Trophy victor and first-round pick by the St. Louis Rams in 2010 has made $114 million over his career, but injuries have haunted Bradford. He would go onto win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. Backups Drew Stanton and Blaine Gabbert are also set to be free agents.

However, when Bradford is healthy, he's a serviceable starter. He had a solid season for the 8-8 Vikings, throwing for 3,877 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 71.6 percent of his passes.
