Matt Damon, Ben Affleck's company will use inclusion riders on future projects

While some are applauding Affleck and Damon pushing for more inclusivity on their own projects, others may give them the side eye for their own roles and past comments and alleged actions on inclusivity and sexual harassment.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have agreed that inclusion riders will be a part of all their future Pearl Street production deals. The announcement was made on Twitter Monday.

"On behalf of Pearl Street Films, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Todd, Drew Vinton and I will be adopting the Inclusion Rider for all of our projects moving forward", Fanshen wrote.

Her tweet shouted-out the actor and director Michael B. Jordan, who announced last week that his production company, Outlier Society, would also adopt "inclusion riders".

At the 90th Academy Awards earlier this month, Frances McDormand won the Oscar for Best Actress and ended her speech with, "I have two words to leave with you tonight, ladies and gentlemen: inclusion rider".

Google searches for "inclusion rider" spiked in the wake of McDormand's speech and there were thousands of tweets mentioning the term in the 20 minutes after her speech concluded.

"There has always been available, to everybody that does a negotiation on a film, an inclusion rider, which means that you can ask for and/or demand at least 50 percent diversity in not only the casting but also the crew", McDormand explained to reporters on March 4.

An "inclusion rider" is a clause that an actor can insist be inserted in the contract; it requires the cast and crew on a film to meet a certain level of diversity.
