Blizzard have confirmed the first expansion for Hearthstone's Year of the Raven. When an Echo card is played, you can keep playing as many copies of that card as you like that turn, provided you have enough mana.

Deceptively simple in design but epically engaging, Hearthstone will be instantly accessible to players regardless of their familiarity with Warcraft or collectible card games.

As you can see in the trailer above, this new expansion will come with a bunch of new cards to play with - 135 in all. The expansion is set to release sometime between now and the end of April, so players won't have to wait long to get their hands on these new cards.

An announcement video, which features a musical number and a preview of Witchwood cards from the development team, can be viewed below.

The "Start of Game" mechanic, as the revealed cards indicate, will be activated based to the mana cost of the cards in your deck (whether they are all odd or even numbered) and if the terms are met a specific effect will be activated. Once the expansion is released, players will have two weeks to arm themselves before embarking on Monster Hunts-the thrilling new single-player Hearthstone experience that will send players deep into The Witchwood to stamp out the evils that lurk within.

It sounds like Witchwood could be the most intriguing addition to the Hearthstone world to date, especially with the new mode and the stack of new cards coming our way.

A trio of Hearthstone developers went into the forest to discover the secrets of The Witchwood, the new expansion for Hearthstone.

There will be four new heroes, each with their own hero power. Azalina Soulthief will replace your hand with an exact copy of your opponent's, which should lead to some interesting strategic back-and forth; there's also Genn Greymane, a neutral minion who will reduce your starting Hero Power cost to just 1 if your deck has only even-cost cards at the beginning of the match, and Baku the Mooneater, who will upgrade your Hero Power if your deck contains only odd-cost cards. As for Rush, it works similar to Charge but you can't attack the enemy player directly to his life points on the first turn the card it's played. Buying into the 50 pack pre-order of The Witchwood will grant you an additional 20 packs in addition to the exclusive card back. This one-time-only bundle is available on any platform for $49.99 (one purchase per account).
