Deterrence and diplomacy are the only options for North Korea

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says the first meeting between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un should take place at a "nice, neutral site".

Experts suggest the USA would likely demand that worldwide inspectors be given permission to verify any freeze or break up of the nuclear program.

Last November, North Korea declared the completion of its nuclear capabilities while problems concerning the reentry technology remained unresolved.

North Korean media has reported on the South Korean visit to the United States, but not on details of the talks, according to Reuters.

If Trump bothered to talk to North Korea experts, he would undoubtedly learn that Kim's regime is pursuing its age-old aim of pushing US forces off the Korean Peninsula, enabling Pyongyang to militarily coerce Seoul into unification on the North's terms: extending its Stalinist dictatorship across the entire peninsula.

Mr Chung expressed thanks for China's role at a meeting earlier with China's top diplomat, State Councillor Yang Jiechi. "Also, the stocks of South Korean parts suppliers to Apple Inc. rose ahead of the release of a new iPhone in the latter half".

Moon has pledged to reopen the industrial park if there is progress on the North's denuclearization.

A South Korean panel concluded in December there was no evidence North Korea diverted wages to bankroll its weapons programs.

Meanwhile, in New York, US' National Security Advisor HR McMaster and US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, briefed members of the UN Security Council on developments related to North Korea.

In the past, North Korea has called for a permanent peace to replace the armistice that ended fighting in the Korean War.

Blaney said the United States should collaborate with countries in the region although some are concerned that Moscow could hinder Washington's efforts to reach a nuclear deal with North Korea.

For the U.S., the coming talks may finally end the threat of a nuclear attack on USA soil. Pyongyang might have taken such a step to maximize its bargaining power without crossing any red lines, which would result in a USA military assault.

However, North Korea has provide a concrete commitment to cut back its nuclear program, while Kim apparently told a South Korean delegation to Pyongyang last week that he understands the need for Seoul and Washington to continue the joint drills.
