American Idol returned in style this week with the help of host Ryan Seacrest and new American Idol judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie.

Season two finalist and CT resident Kimberley Locke gives us a whole recap.

The first audition stop is New York City, where the first contestant is a 17-year-old with a guitar and a whole lot of personality.

( Nineteen-year-old Benjamin Glaze got more than he bargained for when he appeared on American Idol. As promised, the episode on Sunday did not highlight bad auditions. After he sang Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely", Lionel hugged him, Katy cried, and all three judges told him he was going to Hollywood. I can see her belting it out on the Idol stage, but her audition proved that she can showcase her big voice without letting it get out of control; that's key. Luke is sold on his talent, but Katy and Lionel give him a "no" because they feel he hasn't found his identity yet. Catie Turner from Pennsylvania sings the judges an original song called "21st Century Machine", and wins them over with her unique perspective and strong sense of self.

$470 billion trade war looms over OECD's optimistic global outlook
The OECD blamed the UK's position on high inflation dampening consumer demand and continued uncertainty about Brexit. National Treasury now anticipates growth of 1.5% in 2018, rising to 2.1% in 2020.

Row over Frida Kahlo Barbie doll
Many on social media criticised the doll and complained it's more Barbie-like than Frida Kahlo-like. The family also say that they have been trying to dissolve the Frida Kahlo Corporation for years.

Oil prices fall as relief over falling United States rig count fades
WTI for April delivery traded at $62.17 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, up 13 cents at 8:46 Tokyo. Brent crude futures were at $65.38 per barrel, down 11 cents, or 0.2 per cent, from their previous close.

And unlike the old days of American Idol, they are really only focused on talented singers. So, did Davis' performance make Perry lose her wig.

Who do you think had the best audition of the night? The panel was so completely charmed that Katy Perry issued an advance golden ticket for 2026, allowing Dixie through to Hollywood. Where other shows, including The Four, Fox's Idol replacement, throw singers in front of a studio audience right away, Idol auditions dispense with the hubbub and introduce us to the talent pool before hair, make-up and ill-advised song suggestions get in the way.

The show saves the best for last: 26-year-old Philly native Dennis Lorenzo. He nailed not just the song but earned a dance with Katy Perry. Katy and Treavor did some major flirting, but alas, he has a girlfriend.and a golden ticket. The Allen Stone song, "Unaware" could not have been more flawless.

It's the same feedback she got almost 10 years ago, when she made it to Hollywood on the show.
